Summer days always seem to go by way too quickly. It is a great time to relax and take small trips to many places. By the time August first rolls around many seem anxious for school to begin again and to re-establish routines.

Hopefully, you were able to accomplish what you wanted and were able to spend quality time with your children. As we begin our new school year, we’re happy to have our students returning to school and we give a special welcome to the new students joining our neighborhood.

We want your child to be happy and successful at Matthews Middle School and believe that you play a key role. That role is to continually show interest in and support for your child. The child who knows that his or her family is interested in and supports the school program will almost always have fewer problems in school and will enjoy greater success.

At school, we try to create a safe environment where courtesy and kindness prevail and where there is respect for differences in other people, customs, and cultures. Please fill out the contact information form on our team website, so that we can share important announcements, reminders, and documents with you this year and feel free to share with our team any information regarding your child’s special needs that will help us better serve your family. We believe that communication among parents, students, and teachers is critical in assuring student success.

The following information is being shared so that families may better plan their upcoming summer and to ensure that our students and parents know the important dates associated with the start of the 2017/18 school year.

August 1, 2017: First Mailing for Grades PreK-12

On August 1, 2017, all six of our schools will U.S. mail information to parents about student bus transportation, supply lists, e-pay, lunch accounts and other reminders about the start of the school year.

(Please note that some changes will occur to bus routing from August 2nd through the first few weeks of the school year due to variables such as new student enrollees and changes to traffic patterns.)

August 9, 2017: Second Mailing for Grades PreK-5 and Grades 6-8

On August 9, 2017, our elementary schools will U.S. mail information to parents about their child’s teacher assignments as well as other reminders about the start of the school year. Additionally, our middle schools will U.S. mail information to parents about student homeroom assignments as well as other reminders about the start of the school year.

August 11, 2017: Powerschool Student Information System “Goes Live” for Grades PreK-12

On August 11, 2017, parents may access their child’s teacher assignments and/or schedules via our Powerschool web-based student information system beginning at 4:00 p.m. Parents who currently do not access Powerschool may learn how to do so by contacting their child’s school office.

August 16, 2017: First Day of School for All Grades 1-12 and PreK/Kindergarten Open House

On August 16, 2017, we will have our first day of school for Grades 1-12. Children who are enrolled in our Kindergarten, Early Childhood and W.E.E. Kids programs are invited to attend an Open House with their parents during the school day.
